Inverted Nipple

Many women have inverted nipples. It may be perfectly normal, especially if you have had it your whole life. However, if there is a change and you develop inverted nipples this should be assessed by your family doctor, and possibly with imaging, to rule out any possibility of breast cancer and to make sure everything is okay. Assuming there are no health concerns, an inverted nipple can be corrected under local anaesthetic or with some sedation if you prefer. Depending on the extent of the inversion, different techniques may be used, including non-surgical options. You will need to wear a dressing afterwards that prevents pressure on the nipple while it heals. Sutures are usually removed at 1 week. The potential benefits and risks can be addressed more thoroughly with you at the time of your consultation, depending on the severity of your inversion.
