Breast Reduction

REDUCE YOUR DISCOMFORT AND IMPROVE THE SHAPE OF YOUR BREASTS WITH A BREAST REDUCTION.

Many women find that very large breasts can be uncomfortable and can cause medical conditions such as back and shoulder pain, intertrigo (a rash under the breasts), headaches, and present a challenge with exercise. Breast reduction surgery is a procedure to reduce the glandular tissue, fat and excess skin from the breasts.

Dr Shortt will speak to you during a consultation about the size, shape, and nipple position of your reduced breasts, position of scars and the likely post operative results. Dr Shortt has developed techniques that not only reduce the size and weight of the breast but also improve the appearance. You should expect a smaller, perkier, and prettier breast. In some situations he may suggest some liposuction to improve the shape of the breast and remove the roll of fat in the axilla (arm-pit). This is optional and not needed for everyone but can make a magnificent change to the appearance of your breasts and the overall cosmetic result. Most women feel extremely satisfied after their breast reduction surgery and an improved quality of life.

Dr Shortt will go over your options, so you feel that your surgery is specifically planned for you.

When to consider having this procedure?

In general, candidates for breast reduction surgery are aged 18 – 70 years, are in good health, are able to have general anaesthetic, and may have one or more of the following characteristics:

N

discomfort, back or shoulder pain caused by breast size

N

challenge with routine exercise due to oversized breasts

N

asymmetry of the left and right breasts

N

sagging breasts or nipples that point downward

N

self conscious or low self esteem due to breast size

N

a desire to create a more proportionate silhouette and firmer breasts

What is the recovery time?

In general, the recovery time following a breast reduction is approximately 3-6 weeks. As with any surgery under general anaesthetic, there are potential risks or complications to consider. During your private consultation, Dr Shortt will take a thorough medical history from you, discuss your surgical options, explain the complete procedure and potential risks, discuss what to expect pre and post breast reduction surgery, and your estimated recovery time.

Scar Revision – Surgical and Non-Surgical Procedures

As a plastic surgeon I care a lot about scars. My reputation is on the line every time I make an incision in someone. Beyond my reputation, I really want people to be happy. It gives me great pleasure to see a scar heal and be barely visible; it is a competition with myself each time I operate.
