Breast augmentation is also known as breast enlargement and is a common cosmetic surgery procedure that increases breast size.  This procedure is popular with women who have small breasts, or who have lost breast volume due to pregnancy or weight loss, or from the ageing process.  Breast implants will be used for this surgical procedure, which can also help to improve the sagging of the breasts or increase firmness. Dr Shortt will speak to you during a consultation to explain the details of the procedure to you, what to expect pre and post surgery, and the likely post operative result.  Together with Dr Shortt, you will decide on the type of implants, the location and shape, the position of the scars, and the size of the implants.

Many women find that very large breasts can be uncomfortable and can cause medical conditions such as back and shoulder pain, intertrigo (a rash under the breasts), and a challenge with exercise.  Breast reduction surgery is a procedure to reduce the glandular tissue, fat and excess skin from the breasts.  Dr Shortt will speak to you during a consultation about the size, shape, and nipple position of your reduced breasts, and the likely post operative results. Many women feel a high level of satisfaction due to their breast reduction surgery and an improved quality of life.

Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure often preformed to rebuild the shape, symmetry and size of the breasts after surgery from breast cancer, a lumpectomy, or a voluntary preventative mastectomy.  To reconstruct the breast, there are two primary surgical techniques, the first which involves transferring a flap of the patient’s own tissue, the second which employs the use of surgical implants.  Dr Shortt will meet with you during a consultation to decide on the surgical technique that is best suited for your individual needs. Together with Dr Shortt, you will discuss your preferences, body shape, the shape of your other breast, cancer treatment and the stages of reconstructive surgery which may involve future surgical procedures.

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure used to lift and reshape the breasts, with the intention of elevating the nipple, filling the breast mound and reducing excess breast skin.  Many women find that their breast shape or firmness is reduced by pregnancy, breast feeding, or from the ageing process.  Dr Shortt will speak to you during a consultation about your breast shape and expectations, to determine the surgical techniques for achieving the best results.
