Breast Augmentation –
REDEFINE YOUR SILHOUETTE.
Breast augmentation is also known as breast enlargement and is a common cosmetic surgery procedure that increases breast size. This procedure is popular with women who have small breasts, or who have lost breast volume due to pregnancy or weight loss, or from the aging process.
Breast implants used for this procedure can also help to improve the sagging of the breasts and increase firmness. Dr Shortt will speak to you during your consultation to explain the details of the procedure, what to expect pre and post surgery, and the likely post operative result. Together with Dr Shortt, you will decide on the type of implants, the location and shape, the position of the scars, and the size of the implants.
For some women, fat grafting may be a better choice. Breast fat transfer entails liposuction to remove fat from a stubborn area on the body. This fat is then prepared and injected into the breast. It is a very meticulous procedure and can be time consuming. However, the results can be exquisite. Your breasts will feel perfectly natural because it is your own fat being used. Other benefits include liposuction to that area of fat which otherwise never seems to disappear and virtually no scar.
Dr Shortt will go over your options, so you feel that your surgery is specifically planned for you.
When to consider having this procedure?
In general, candidates for breast augmentation (breast enlargement) surgery are aged 18 – 65 years, are in good health and are able to have general anaesthetic, and may have one or more of the following characteristics:
dissatisfied with current breast cup size and shape
sagging or deflated breasts due to post-pregnancy or weight loss
lost breast volume due to the aging process
asymmetry (different sizes) of the left and right breasts, in shape or size
desire to enhance your current silhouette
breast enlargement to accompany another procedure such as liposuction, tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck
breast augmentation post breast cancer treatment
Breast fat transfer can also be used to conceal an implant that may be visible or palpable in very thin patients
What is the recovery time?
In general, the recovery time following a breast augmentation procedure is approximately 3-6 weeks. As with any surgery under general anaesthetic, there are potential risks or complications to consider. During your private consultation,
Dr Shortt will take a thorough medical history from you, discuss your surgical options, explain the complete procedure and potential risks, discuss what to expect pre and post breast augmentation surgery, and your estimated recovery time.

I get asked this question a lot from patients, from doctors, even from people who I meet socially. There is a lot of interest in breast enhancement and augmentation. With everything, there are pros and cons to each and every choice.read more
Presumably, people think that these super-sized breasts look good? And obviously surgeons either agree or are at least willing to acquiesce and put them into people. The question is WHY? Do they really look that good? Will patients be happy if they have giant breasts? If bigger is good, is gigantic better? Many people may think so, but I disagree.read more
I see a lot of patients for breast surgery. It is a significant part of my practise. I do both cosmetic breast surgery and reconstructive breast surgery. One of the questions that I often get from both groups is how long will my implants last? I tell my patients that we really don’t know. In general, they are very robust.read more
