Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) & Mini Tummy Tuck
RETURN YOUR BODY BACK TO ITS YOUTHFUL SHAPE.
FLATTEN, TIGHTEN AND SMOOTH YOUR ABDOMEN WITH A TUMMY TUCK.
A tummy tuck, or an abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that reduces the fat and loose skin around the abdomen, tightens and firms the abdominal wall, and if desired can enhance your hour-glass figure. It is often requested post-pregnancy or after significant weight loss.
This procedure can also be requested to reduce the unsightly appearance of caesarian scars, or a droopy appearance of the stomach despite routine exercise. Restoring the shape and firmness of the stomach, this surgery can be very satisfying to many patients.
The best time to have it is at a time when you have lost any extra weight and have kept it stable for several months. At this point the most ideal contouring can be performed. An ideal patient should expect to be able to wear a bikini without anyone being able to tell that you had surgery. In order to do this, Dr Shortt focusses on two key goals: to place the scar so low that it is hidden by your bikini or underwear; and to create a beautiful, natural appearing belly button. Dr Shortt has a particular interest in belly button beautification. Many of his referrals come from patients’ high satisfaction with their belly button. He has recently been interviewed on the topic.
On occasion, some patients have some loose skin below the belly button but otherwise have a nice shape to their abdomen. In this setting you may be able to have a mini-abdominoplasty which limits the amount of surgery, costs, recovery, and scarring.
As with any surgery under general anaesthetic, there are potential risks or complications to consider. During your private consultation, Dr Shortt will take a thorough medical history from you, discuss your areas of concern and your goals. He will then discuss your options, explaining the associated benefits and risks and go over the general recovery time, as well as discuss what to expect pre and post surgery.
Dr Shortt will go over your options, so you feel that your surgery is specifically planned for you.
When to consider having this procedure?
In general, candidates for this surgery are aged 18 – 70 years, are in good health and are able to have general anaesthetic, and may have one or more of the following characteristics:
loose skin around the abdomen
caesarian scars, sagging and or stretched skin due to pregnancy
excessive skin around the abdomen due to significant weight loss
desire to restore a firmer, tighter waistline
What is the recovery time?
In general, the recovery time following this procedure is approximately 3-6 weeks. As with any surgery under general anaesthetic, there are potential risks or complications to consider. During your private consultation, Dr Shortt will be able to estimate the time he expects it will take you to recover, and how soon you can expect to get back to the different activities you usually do.

How to Get a Great Mommy Makeover and Look Like a Celebrity
How do celebrities look so great post-pregnancy and what surgeries are they getting to look this way?
I was answering questions in Realself recently, when I came across this question and I thought I would share my response. Some celebrities look amazing after pregnancy… as though they never had a baby at all. Several things contribute to this.
Why I Love the Mommy Makeover
A breast lift and a tummy tuck are surgical procedures that go well together: one surgery day; one recovery; less costs; and an amazing body transformation. I perform breast and tummy surgeries together on a regular basis. It is referred to as the Mommy Makeover and is one of the most satisfying procedures for my patients and me. I see patients regularly who are interested in returning their bodies back to its pre-pregnancy stage.
Mommy Makeover – Giving You Back Your Pre-Pregnancy Body
How would you like to bring back your pre-pregnancy body? A mommy makeover is typically requested by women post-pregnancy who would like to return their bodies back to their pre-pregnancy appearance. It can often involve a tummy tuck and breast surgery, which can include breast augmentation with implants, a breast reduction, a breast lift, body contouring to reshape the silhouette, and/or liposuction.
